Lower Facelift

A lower facelift is a type of facelift that focuses primarily on the lower third of the face, i.e., from the mouth to the neck. The surgeon makes strategic incisions along the hairline and behind the ears to trim excess skin, remove unwanted fat deposits, and tighten the underlying muscles, making your lower face look firm and contoured. This procedure reduces the prominence of nasolabial folds and marionette lines, corrects a double chin, and makes your jawline look chiseled and contoured.

Dr. Chiodo’s Personalized Lower Facelift Technique

Dr. Chiodo performs a highly personalized lower facelift after a thorough evaluation and consultation. He examines your facial skin, discusses your goals, reviews your medical history, and measures the degree of skin laxity on your face. After a thorough evaluation, he discusses your facelift treatment options and explains the rationale behind his recommendation. If you primarily have facial sagging and signs of aging on the lower face, Dr. Chiodo may recommend a lower facelift instead of a full/ SMAS facelift.

We perform our facelift surgeries in our cutting-edge operating rooms under general anesthesia. Dr. Chiodo makes extremely small incisions along the hairline, under the chin, or behind the ears. The location of the incision depends on your unique goals, but it’s usually placed along the natural creases of the skin to minimize visibility. After making incisions, he separates the skin from the underlying tissues, trims excess skin, removes excess fat deposits, and tightens the underlying muscles using sutures.

Sometimes, Dr. Chiodo also performs liposuction, which involves using a cannula to suction away excess fat cells from the submental region (chin). Liposuction allows him to correct an unwanted double chin, making your jawline look firm, sculpted, and chiseled. After making all necessary adjustments, he re-drapes and sutures your skin. Finally, tubes might be placed underneath your skin to facilitate drainage, and a cooling mask might be used to reduce swelling and bruising. The procedure concludes within 3 hours.

Recovery After Lower Facelift

After a lower facelift, you may experience considerable swelling for up to 48 hours. You will also experience bruising, swelling, tenderness, and stiffness for up to 2 weeks, following which the side effects will gradually recede. You can resume most of your daily activities and low-intensity work after 2 weeks, but strenuous workouts should be avoided for at least 6 weeks. You will notice major improvements after about 3 to 4 weeks, with continued improvements for a year.
